Hello and welcome to the Fresh Rollers, thanks for stopping by!

The Fresh Rollers began in 2016 as a Facebook page and a dream. A dream to see roller dancing in Calgary, to teach roller dancing, and to hold fun roller skate parties.

We are a family run business and receive a lot of help from skater volunteers. We try to service as many skaters as possible, and make it affordable as possible - we are in the business to help people skate, plain and simple!

After Lloyd’s closed in 2018 the Fresh Rollers decided to rent a community centre every Friday night, just until, you know, Calgary got a rink again. YYC is still waiting for that rink to come back.

The very first post-Lloyd’s disco was at Hillhurst Community Centre, the weekend after Lloyd’s closed. The poor skaters were so sad, their grief evident on their gloomy faces and in their sad eyes.

The place was small, linoleum, and had divots in the ground that had to be taped up. A far cry from the giant, beautiful smooth maple floor at Lloyd’s. But the skaters didn’t care, they just wanted to be together and skate. A few of the regulars still tell us to this day that those were some of the best times they had skating, not because of the awful floor, but because of the energy and the people. That is a beautiful thing!

Fresh Rollers then went on to Cedarbrae Community Centre, where we stayed for about 1.5 years. We kept going every Friday night and packed that small gymnasium, and soon other companies started to put on events. It was amazing to see so many roller events to choose from and so many new people getting into the sport. The energy being fueled into the scene was incredible!

Fresh Rollers had recently started to operate out of Cardel Rec in SW Calgary in 2021, but closed after Covid started the 2nd time.

Now we have found the amazing Trinity Christian School in SE Calgary, a gloriously smooth 5000 square foot hardwood floor.

We are so happy to be able to still have the privilege to put on fun discos for Calgary skaters but are anxiously awaiting the return of a proper rink. Surely with all the events and interest in roller skating going on in Calgary, you’d think someone would have gotten on that by now.
